What do we believe?
As a Reformed, Presbyterian church, we believe that the Bible is the
infallible Word of God, and that it contains all we need to know to serve Him.
Our duty is to "glorify God and to enjoy Him forever." (Westminster
Shorter Catechism, question 1) Although all humans are fallen sinners, God
has sent His son Jesus Christ to save His people by bearing the punishment due
us.
Religion is not something that we "do" for an hour each Sunday
morning. God is sovereign over the entire universe and every aspect of our
lives, and calls us to serve Him in everything we do. Although we are not
perfect and often fail in honoring God in our daily lives, we continually strive to improve
and grow in our relationship with Him. At Christ Covenant Church, you'll find
preaching, teaching, and encouragement to help us better serve God in all areas
of life.
What does it mean to be Reformed?
The Reformed faith traces its roots back to the 16th century Protestant
Reformation. Its seventeenth-century doctrinal statement, the Westminster
Confession of Faith, along with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms,
comprise our secondary (or subordinate) standards-a summary of our understanding
of the main Biblical doctrines.
Why "Presbyterian?"
The word "presbyterian" comes from the New Testament Greek word presbeuteros,
which means "elder." Since the time of Moses in the Old Testament,
God's people have been led by elders, men gifted by God and called to govern his
church. At Christ Covenant Church, we follow this historical, Biblical pattern,
with local elders governing and shepherding our church, and being responsible to
the regional body of elders, called the presbytery, composed of elders and
ministers from all the Orthodox Presbyterian churches in the region.
